Sort of neat because it can activate your de-icer, or some heat tape, or just about anything you want to come on JUST BEFORE freezing does damage. Shoot, you could hook this up to a light just to give you a warning!
Don't hook this up to a heating unit. Reason is that it senses air temperature. So when it's about frosty out, this thermocube comes on and activates the appliance. It won't know that the water has become plenty hot. So it should only be hooked up to de-icers, heat tape or other items which don't actually "heat" the water.
This would be good in a remote area plugged into a space heater - for when it drops down near freezing the space heater could come on and maintain it around 45 degrees F. Especially useful in a filter house or other pond outbuilding.
