Reticulated Open Cell Foam is the coarse black material used to make large sponge filters. It's coarse enough to catch a lot of solid waste but not clog. Rapidly colonizes with beneficial nitrogen reducing bacteria. When it's time to clean ROCF you simply wring it like a sponge material. It cleans pretty easy.
Japanese Fiber Bonded Matting is basically the oh-so-common white Japanese matting. It's coarse and allows for a lot of solids capture before clogging and allowing bypass. The matting is rigid enough to hold its form and position in the filter.

What is the PPI count for this foam (ROCF)? I want to use it in a salt water aquarium, do you think that will be ok?

I'm not certain if there is more than a few hundred peope in the country who know the answer. 15 per cubic centimater. It has been used as both a mechanical and bio-logical filter media in both fresh and salt water for many years.

My only concern was your request for 18 1/8" diameter. I could cut it a little large, and you could compress it into the filter. I receive so many email questions a day, that I can only answer them by email................Bob

I MANUFACTURE MY OWN BIO FILTERS AND AM NEED OF ( T-20 ? ) CELLULAR FOAM IN A PRECUT DISC. I HAVE BEEN USING A WEAVED MATERIAL BUT WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE TO FOAM IF COST EFFECTIVE. I DO NOT NEED A LARGE QUANTITY AS OF YET SINCE THIS WILL BE A MARKET TRIAL. CAN YOU QUOTE ME ON 1" THICK X 18 1/16 WIDE. I ALSO WOULD LIKE A MED PLUS DENSITY SO AS NOT TO CLOG MUCH, SIMILAR TO HOLES PER INCH THAT SUPREME USES ON THIER PRE FILTERS FOR THIER PUMPS. THANK YOU. Hello Dennis, and thank you for the email.
I will mail a small piece of material to the above address. If the product meets with your approval, I would rather sell you a larger size piece of material, and have you cut it to your size. It cuts very easily with a standard plastic utility knofe. I would not want to cut this or any product to a measurement that has an 1/8th of an inch in it, unless you wanted several hundred. I have the material in stock in 1" - 2" - and 3" thicknesses. Thanks again................Bob

Thanks for the email. The reticulated foam is not available in 4" thickness, because it would be very difficult to clean. We have 2" & 3" thickness available. You can easily stack two 2" for your 4" thickness, while still being able to clean it easily. Thanks again.............Bob
